Dolphins’ Sprinklers Come On Midgame
A computer malfunction caused the irrigation system to turn on during the third quarter of Sunday’s Dolphins-Seahawks game at Sun Life Stadium. Referees went running, players stood in the middle of the water trying to figure out what was happening and stadium crews went scrambling to figure out why. Read More

STC Announces Real Field of Dreams Winners
The Synthetic Turf Council has named the Cotting School in Lexington, Mass., and The City of Refuge in Atlanta, Ga., the grand prize winners of the 2012 Search for the Real Field of Dreams contest. The annual contest recognizes synthetic turf athletic fields, parks and playgrounds that have made an exceptional impact within their communities. Read More

Douglas Named Best in Double A
Dan Douglas, groundskeeper for the Reading Phillies, was named the Sports Turf Manager of the Year for Class AA teams for the second time. Douglas, who has an agronomy degree from Penn State, will accept the award at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn., December 3. In 2001 he received the Harry C. Gill Award. Read More

Former Punter Sues Over Turf
Former Houston Texans punter Brett Hartmann has sued the county agency that operates Reliant Stadium, blaming “unsafe turf” for a possibly career-ending knee injury. The suit names venue-management company SMG and the Harris County Convention and Sports Corporation as defendants. Read More

Burlington Stadium Renovated
Renovations are underway at Burlington Athletic Stadium, Burlington, NC. The project involves removing the sod, laser grading the infield and resodding with a new bermudagrass/rye blend. The field is the home to the Burlington Royals baseball team of the Appalachian League, and also hosts a couple college tournaments each year. Read More

Work Begins On Second Moorestown Field
Work on the second synthetic turf field in Moorestown, Pa., has begun. The LandTek Group, an Amityville, N.Y., company that specializes in sports facility design and the construction of synthetic athletic fields, won the contract. The field will be used for youth soccer, field hockey, football and lacrosse. Read More

Five high schools throughout the southern U.S. each won 10 bags of Talstar XTRA granular insecticide courtesy of FMC’s Friday Night Lights contest. The winners were Suwannee High School, McAlpin, Fla.; Keller Independent School District, Keller, Texas; Richard J.
