Safeco Field Brings in Grow Lights
Following a harsh winter, Stadium Grow Lighting, a Netherlands company, brought a mobile lighting system that has been greening up soccer fields around the world to help green up Seattle's Safeco Field. The lights are tuned to the optimum level of photosynthetically active radiation to stimulate grass growth. The field should be in prime condition for Opening Day on April 13. Read More

Work Underway at Wheaton College Field
Wheaton College's baseball games will soon be played on artificial turf and under lights. A $3 million plan for the field also includes construction of a 242-seat stadium, press box, locker rooms, concessions, bathrooms and a storage facility. The project includes addition of a public address system and a paved 39-space parking lot. Installation of the turf is expected to be complete by April 7. Read More

Vandalized Field Won't Be Ready For Spring Season
Officials in Johnston, R.I., said Sunday that a soccer field damaged by vandals won't be repaired in time for the spring season. Surveillance video from early March showed the vandalism in progress at the Johnston town soccer complex. Police said two 18-year-olds drove a car and an SUV in circles, ripping up the turf. Repairs are expected to cost $15,000. Read More

City Wins Field of Excellence Award
The Parks Athletics Division of Franklin, Tenn., was awarded a Field of Excellence Award by Pioneer Athletics. The Franklin Cowboys Complex at Jim Warren Park was one of 90 parks chosen for this award from a pool of more than 250 applicants nationwide. The Fields of Excellence Awards Program is a national program designed to foster school and community spirit. Read More

University of Nebraska Enjoying New Field
The University of Nebraska at Kearney Lopers have started baseball season on their new turf. As part of the makeover, the dirt infield was replaced entirely with artificial turf. Thanks to the new turf, the team was able to start practice back in February. The team says one noticeable difference about the new turf is the speed; ground balls aren't traveling as fast. Iowa State Places First at Turf Bowl
The Iowa State University Turf Grass Club placed first at the “Turf Bowl,” a 3.5-hour test sponsored by John Deere in Las Vegas, Nev. University of Massachusetts at Amherst came in second place, and the University of Maryland in third. Iowa State University has won this competition 12 out of the last 14 years it has competed.

City to Fund Scoreboard for Stadium
The city of Columbus, Neb., will finance a new $238,457 scoreboard for Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium. At 31-by-25-feet, including advertising displays, the new equipment will be significantly larger than the 8-feet by 18-feet scoreboard it's replacing. Columbus High School and Scotus Central Catholic High School both use Memorial Stadium for track and football. Read More

Gallaudet University Upgrades to FieldTurf
Gallaudet University has decided that it's moving forward with FieldTurf. The school recently upgraded its softball field with FieldTurf DoublePlay Classic and plans to renovate Hoy Field, Gallaudet's baseball diamond, with DoublePlay Classic as well. The renovations are part of big efforts to revamp the athletic program and create a world-class venue that'll be used by the district for numerous endeavors. Read More
